I doubt

occupied Chungking which would be the normal route for these soldiers to pass from Hong Kong to free China. whether on this account the Hong Kong Government would wish to withdraw their recommendation for the release of these soldiers. It should not be beyond the ingenuity of the Chinese to smuggle them out

of the Colony and the Hong Kong Government itself has been so keen on restricting the surplus population of the Colony that they are not likely to let the men stay at Hong Kong after their release.
